Description
This is more of a nature experience than an exercise hike. The trail follows a river, so it is basically flat. Many large old growth Cedars, Fir and Hemlock can be found along this trail, with some of them being quite remarkable in stature. This trail continues south to the American border, but most people only hike about an hour or so before turning around.
Directions to Chilliwack Lake Eco Reserve - Hiking
From Highway #1 (Trans-Canada Highway) in Chilliwack, take Exit #119 heading South. Follow Vedder Road through Sardis until the 3-way stop directly before the Vedder River Bridge. Turn left here onto Chilliwack Lake road at the stop sign.
Follow Chilliwack Lake Road to the end of the pavement. Keep driving straight. Don't turn right into the main entrance to the Chilliwack Lake Provincial Park. Continue straight onto a dirt forestry road. Follow the forestry road along the perimeter of the lake until you reach the blocked Depot Creek Bridge, near the south end of the lake. Park here. Be aware that the road around Chilliwack lake is quite rough (lots of potholes, sketchy conditions depending on weather). It can be handled slowly with a car but please don't bring your new Mercedes. Truck or SUV (one you're willing to get dirty) is recommended.
