Description
Day hike up the back side of Stawamus Chief in Squamish, BC. This one is a leg burner as it's uphill all the way and has lots and lots of stair climbing.
All of the three main summits are accessible via the Chief's hiking trails. These trails are steep and rugged. In several high places there are short sections so steep that chains and ladders have been bolted to the rock for aid. Not a hike we recommend for new hikers, despite the fact that throngs of tourists tackle this hike everyday. It's popular and very overrun with people, especially on weekends in the summer.
There are three main summit areas:
* First Peak or the South Summit (610 m)
* Second Peak or the Centre Summit (655 m)
* Third Peak or the North Summit (702 m)
